Forest Fuels and Species Conservation
In 2019, the US Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and various Commercial Forest Landowners in California, operating within the range of the California Spotted Owl, Northern Spotted Owl, and Pacific Fisher, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU serves the purpose of coordinating efforts between the aforementioned entities on forest fuels reduction and species conservation issues. Since the MOU's signing, additional entities such as the Bureau of Land Management have also joined the agreement.
As part of the MOU, the parties have agreed to share map-based information concerning the location of fuel reduction projects and the general objectives of these activities. We are delighted to provide this information to the public, for use in fuels reduction projects and species conservation planning.
