Current Situation

Situation Summary

As of Sunday evening, March 30, 2025, the Silver Fire continues to burn in Inyo County, California. The wildfire ignited around 2:11 p.m. near Highway 6 and Silver Canyon Road, north of Bishop, and has been spreading rapidly.

Evacuation orders are in place for several communities, including Laws in Inyo County, Chalfant in Mono County, and the White Mountain Estates neighborhood. A 30-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 6 has been closed for public safety.

Strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph at Bishop Airport, have created hazardous conditions, grounding some firefighting aircraft and complicating containment efforts. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. PDT on Monday, March 31, forecasting southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 65 mph.
