Incident Update Eaton Fire

Situation Summary

Today, aircraft continued to support firefighters along the northern edge of the fire, utilizing data from infrared flights, to locate and extinguish hot spots. Residual heat is largely confined to the foothill drainages, where dense brush remains. In Altadena, all three Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams were active, with the majority of search operations nearing completion. Firefighters have completed the application of ground-based retardant around the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and conducted brush clearance at strategic locations in La Cañada. Utility operations are ongoing in the affected communities.

Gentle offshore winds will continue to weaken tonight. Calmer but dry conditions will build Thursday with some moisture arriving this weekend. Critical fire weather conditions will likely return early next week.

Virtual Community Meeting Thursday, January 16th 4:00 p.m.: Eaton Fire officials will host a virtual community meeting and provide an update on the current fire situation, address questions, and discuss recovery.

Damage Assessment

Damage estimates from remote sensing technologies indicate over 7,000 structures may have been damaged or destroyed. While this is a preliminary estimate, the number of structures damaged and destroyed listed at the top of this page have been verified by on-the-ground damage inspection teams. Damage inspection teams have completed inspections of 60% of all structures within the fire footprint.

Disaster Resource Center
Starting Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Disaster Resource Center will be available to the public from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Residents affected by the wildfires can apply to receive assistance by submitting applications for disaster relief.

Forest Closures

The entire Angeles National Forest is temporarily closed for public safety and the protection of natural resources from January 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. through Wednesday, January 19, 2025, at 12:00 midnight. During this time, the following acts are prohibited within the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel
Mountains National Monument:
