Incident Update Bridge Fire

Situation Summary

Although windy conditions hampered night flying aircraft last night, firefighters were successful in their direct and indirect line construction, increasing containment by two percent.

The northwest flank of the fire continues to be the most active and is the priority for today’s operations. Despite the overnight erratic cold winds with gusts up to 30 mile per hour, crews were able to tie together two dozer lines with hand line. Firefighters focused on direct attack along the fire’s edge to protect the communities of Big Pines, Piñon Hills, and other communities to the northwest. While the fire continues backing down towards Big Pines Road, crews successfully held it in check last night. Today, crews will work to reinforce and mop up containment lines and fall hazard trees.

To the northeast, firefighters continue directly engaging along the fires edge with mop-up operations to secure containment lines. They are also working hard to strengthen containment lines on the west side of the North Fork of Lytle Creek by prioritizing dozer lines and direct attack wherever possible to stop fire spread.

The fire's east flank is less active; however, it still presents a risk to the Mt. Baldy area, and evacuations remain in effect. Structure defense groups will remain in place to mitigate any isolated heat and continue the progress made by the previous operational shifts. Along Mt. Blady Road, crews continue mopping up and feel confident the fireline is secure and have added black line on the map.

The south flank is holding, and firefighters have secured containment lines along the direct edge of the fire. There is still some isolated heat around Sunset Peak that crews will be seeking out to extinguish today. Heavy equipment, along with hand-crews, will continue constructing secondary containment lines in the area.

On the west flank, in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness's rugged and steep terrain, firefighting efforts successfully held the fire from advancing near Rattlesnake Peak by constructing dozer and hand lines. Today,

firefighters will continue constructing containment lines to Ross Peak and Pidgeon Ridge.

Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.
