Current Situation

Situation Summary

During the rapid growth of the Park Fire over the last two days, the fire spread quickly through the Ishi Wilderness in the Lassen National Forest. The cooler temperatures this morning moderated the fire behavior, allowing fire crews the opportunity to actively combat the fire outside of the National Forest lands. This proactive approach aims to safeguard the communities and ecological and cultural resources that may be at risk from the fire.

The decreased smoke today caused a warmer climate around the fire which has led to increased fire activity that will remain through the evening hours.

The fire continues to burn very actively in heavy, receptive fuel beds at multiple locations throughout the fire area. Grouped trees, rough and steep terrain and fire spotting is causing additional growth this afternoon.

Crews continue to engage offensively, when safe to do so, on various parts of the fire to build direct line, reinforce lines, and to begin mop-up.

The current acreage is 360,141 total:

  • Butte County: 53,356 acres
  • Tehama County: 306,785 acres

Fire Integrated Real-Time Intelligence System Program (FIRIS) aircraft is flying over the fire, mapping acreage which will allow for periodic acreage updates.

We ask that the public continues to be diligent and prepared.

Damage inspection teams continue to identify and verify structures that have been damaged or destroyed. The numbers of structures reported are expected to adjust as the team verifies impacts.
