Current Situation
Situation Summary
Firefighters continue to make progress with suppression efforts and building containment lines around the perimeter of the Post fire outside of Gorman. Pyramid Lake remains closed to the public.
With increased temperatures and gusty winds, abundant resources continue to make a positive impact on the fire. Approximately 1,255 personnel are actively working on the incident protecting infrastructure, watersheds and recreation areas. Hand crews and dozers have constructed more than 33 miles of containment line in steep, rugged terrain, and will continue to work on securing the rest of the fire perimeter. Water tenders, helicopters and fire engines focused their efforts on identifying and monitoring hot spots within the fire footprint, while patrols addressed heat and smoke around the perimeter.
Fire crews are conducting suppression repair where opportunities present themselves, minimizing terrain alterations caused by dozer lines and constructing water bars throughout the impacted area to prevent future erosion.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to bring exceedingly hot temperatures. With daytime temperatures pushing past 100 degrees, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning. Humidity levels are expected to be in the teens, with winds up to 30 MPH. With higher temperatures this weekend, more smoke may be visible. On Sunday there is a slight possibility of thunderstorms over the burn area.
