Current Situation

Situation Summary

Firefighters continue to make progress building containment lines around the perimeter of the Post Fire outside of Gorman.

Approximately 950 personnel are actively working on the incident protecting and repairing valuable environmental resources and habitat. Water tenders, helicopters and fire engines continue to monitor hot spots within the fire, while patrols are focused on heat and smoke around the perimeter. With hotter temperatures and drier air, there is a chance of increased smoke over the fire area this evening and tomorrow.

Where possible, fire crews have shifted their focus to suppression repair within the fire footprint, with the intent to return the area to its pre-fire state. Pyramid Lake remains closed to the public, and boat shuttle operations allowed crews to conduct damage assessments on docks and other waterfront areas.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect, and today temperatures reached nearly 100 degrees. Hot temperatures are expected again on Sunday. Humidity levels are expected to be in the teens and possibly down to single digits. There is a slight possibility of thunderstorms on Sunday, with any storms bringing minimal rain to the area.
