Current Situation
Situation Summary
Firefighters continue to make significant progress on the Post fire increasing containment lines around the fire. Crews on the north end of the fire continue mop-up operations and patrols focusing on hotspots and eliminating areas of heat and smoke. Forward progress on the north end has been stopped at the I-5 freeway helping to reduce smoke conditions.
On the northwest side of the fire, crews are reinforcing control lines to protect infrastructure and natural resources. Firefighters are strengthening and extending fire lines along the southern flank to tie in with crews from the south edge of the fire.
Steep terrain and brush in some areas are extremely difficult to access. Firefighters are being shuttled by boat from Pyramid Lake and flown in by helicopter to access any active fire and protect control lines.
Heavy wilderness areas along the southwest flank continue to be a significant concern with potential wind alignment affecting control objectives. Crews continue to work in forested areas affected by the fire to protect natural resources.
Today’s weather was warm and dry, with temperatures in the mid-70s to low 80s. Winds continue to hamper operations with gusts up to 40 MPH.
