UPDATE - 6:30 p.m. - The fire remains 64.3 acres and is now 40% contained. Fire resources will remain on scene throughout the night working on building containment around the fire.
UPDATE - 3:40 p.m. - The forward rate of spread for the fire has been stopped. The fire remains at 64.3 acres and is now 10% contained. 4 outbuildings have been destroyed.
CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire near the intersection of Elm St and Bonita Ave in Cabazon. The fire was initially reported at three acres with a moderate rate of spread. FIRIS has mapped the fire at 64.3 acres at 2:00 p.m. The fire is putting off a significant amount of smoke, impacting the I-10; please avoid the area due to impacts on air quality while firefighters work to contain the fire. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
