Current Situation

Situation Summary

Firefighters are currently working on a vegetation fire in the Buttewick Canyon area. The fire has burned 15 acres in the United States and over 80 acres in Mexico. It is burning on the steep south slope of Otay Mountain, in grass and brush. Firefighters are working to keep the fire south of the border road and stop it from spreading any further north into the United States. We are also in contact with the Mexican Consulate and coordinating as needed.

Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the State are flying fire suppression missions as conditions allow.
