Road Closures

A soft closure on forest road 4N12 is now in place at the intersection of 4N12 known as Hammill Canyon Loop. The closure is for public safety due to several snags, aircraft in the area and firefighters and equipment working on the ground. The closure will be assessed daily and stay in place until it is safe for the public to go back in.

Status Update

Situation Summary

The afternoon winds have been challenging causing the potential of flare ups to the unburned fuels up on the ridge top of the fire. The vegetation is extremely dry with the Energy Release Component (ERC’s) in the 90th percentile. Crews will continue with mopping up any hot spots and spot fires within the containment line until a season ending event occurs. Weakened trees and snags continue to be a concern for firefighter safety. Our Resource Advisors team will continue working within the burn area assessing the needs for suppression repair. We greatly appreciate the public’s help and understanding by abiding by the Forest Order Closure.

On October 11th the Forest Order went into effect restricting access into the Herring Creek, Hammill Canyon Loop. Active fire and hazardous standing trees, and their proximity to roads and trails are clear indicators that the fire area is dangerous. Our number one priority is for firefighter and public safety
