Current Situation
Situation Summary
Current Situation:
Dixie Fire West Zone: RFire activity reduced slightly over night. The West Zone and East Zone are working collaboratively to keep the fire from impacting HWY
395. Crews will continue to complete lines in steep and rugged terrain in the Lassen Volcanic National Park using direct attack and air operations when and where possible. Many resources and equipment will be working aggressively along HWY 395 to establish containment and provide structure protection in and around the communities of Janesville, Milford, Buntingville, Herlong and Junction. Crews continue to establish direct and indirect containment lines south of Old Station and along HWY 44 monitoring for spot fires across the highway while protecting critical fiber optic cable. The remainder of the fire continued to smolder and consume heavier materials and interior islands. Southwest winds are predicted to continue a downward trend with only a few wind gusts up to 20 mph predicted this afternoon.
Aircraft will continue to provide support as conditions allow. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and to monitor evacuation information and road closures, including social media and local law enforcement websites for the most current information. Residents will see smoke coming from trees and stumps for days following their return. Proceed with caution because burned out areas may have unseen hazards. Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they are concerned about any active flames near their homes or businesses. Damage assessment remains ongoing. Change in threatened structures due to new Evacuation Warnings in Lassen, Plumas and Shasta County.
Dixie Fire East Zone: Crews will work closely with the West Zone today to keep fire that made a strong run to the northeast yesterday from impacting Milford and Highway 395. Efforts will include constructing direct and indirect containment lines where there are opportunities to reduce spread to the northwest and southeast. Dozer line from Lake Davis to Clover Valley, and then further north, will be constructed to keep fire from spreading east towards Dixie Valley. To keep the fire away from Hwy 70 corridor, crews will continue focusing on extending dozer line down Grizzly Ridge and tie into the shore of Lake Davis. Structure protection remains in place within Genesee, Taylorsville, Greenhorn, and Cromberg.
