Incident Updates
Firefighters have held the fire to its 622 acre footprint and have increased containment to 45%.
Firefighters made great progress throughout the day today targeting hotspots with drone infrared imagery from last night. Crews continue to mop up 200-500’ in from the perimeter, further securing the fireline. All spot fires have handlines around them. The steep and rocky terrain presents challenges to firefighters, and rockfall still poses a threat to westbound lanes of Interstate 80 where the #2 lane remains closed. All evacuation orders have been lifted, with only zone NCO-E379-A remaining under an evacuation warning. Dry and mild weather is expected through the weekend, with temperatures steadily increasing into midweek and daytime relative humidity remaining around 20–25%.
Firefighters held the fire within current containment lines at 622 acres and have now achieved 35% containment.
Firefighters continue strong progress with mop-up nearing 200 feet around most of the perimeter and containment lines being strengthened where possible. Rock fall and rollout due to extremely steep conditions continue to be an issue on the fire affecting Interstate 80.
Evacuations: All prior warnings have been lifted. A previous evacuation order has been reduced to a warning in the immediate vicinity of the fire (no residents currently in the warning area).
Firefighters have held the fire to 622 acres and have now achieved 25% containment.
All evacuation orders have been lifted, with only zone NCO-E379-A remaining under an evacuation warning.
Dry and mild weather is expected through the weekend, with temperatures steadily
increasing into midweek and daytime relative humidity remaining around 20–25%.
Firefighters are exposed to steep, rugged terrain, which continues to make access difficult.
The Floriston Fire is now 25% contained
One lane of westbound I-80 is back open this morning at the Nevada state line. Thank you to the crews for their hard work and effort overnight. Traffic will be metered and permit loads are currently restricted.

Evacuation Order for Zone NCO-E379-A has been downgraded to an Evacuation Warning. Zones NCO-E106, NCO-E379-B, SIE-E099, and SIE-E100-B have been reduced to NORMAL status.

The meeting will be live on Facebook, offering community members the opportunity to hear directly from fire officials about the current status of the fire, containment efforts, and safety measures. Additionally, the public can submit questions online during the virtual meeting and they will be addressed by officials.

Due to improved mapping, the Floriston Fire has been revised to 622 acres with 15% containment. Fire crews are actively working to construct handline around the entire fire perimeter, with the north and northeast portions presenting the greatest challenges due to rugged terrain and the presence of marble. CALTRANS and CHP are working to reopen the No. 1 lane of westbound traffic at 0700 hours, with traffic controls and possible restrictions in place during the reopening.
Firefighters have held the fire to 640 acres and have increased containment to 8%. Operations will continue through the evening to strengthen containment lines working in steep rugged conditions.

Another resource supporting firefighting operations on the Floriston Fire. The Union Pacific Railroad Fire Train is being utilized on the incident, with convenient access near the fire and 100,000 gallons of water available to support firefighting efforts.
The fire showed a small amount of growth on the north and east sides as crews worked throughout the night. The dayshift is heavily staffed with engines, crews and dozers. Rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft are busy flying the fire, providing additional support to firefighters on the ground. The Union Pacific Railroad Fire Train is also being utilized. Its location provides convenient access near the fire and the train carries 100,000 gallons of water to support firefighting operations.
The Floriston Fire is now 640 acres and 5% contained.
The fire remained within last night’s perimeter, with dozer line along portions of the south side and hand line around portions of the fire. Two spot fires were identified to the north.
The north side of the fire, toward Reno, remains the priority due to open line and areas where existing line needs improvement. Down-canyon winds are expected through Friday before transitioning to up-canyon winds. Forecasted winds are 6–10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, relative humidity around 30% and daytime temperatures in the mid to high 60s.
Westbound Interstate 80 remains closed from approximately the state line through the fire area due to safety concerns, including the potential for material to roll onto the highway. Caltrans will assess roadway conditions with fire personnel to evaluate when it can safely reopen.
Evacuation warnings and orders remain in place.
The Sacramento Regional Incident Management Team assumed command of the incident at 7 a.m. this morning.
Winds in the fire area have decreased from the peak gusts experienced earlier this afternoon. Night-flying helicopters are assigned to the incident and are actively supporting firefighting operations.
Firefighters will continue working through the night to strengthen containment lines and limit the fire’s spread.
The Floriston Fire is now 613 acres and 5% contained.

The Floriston Fire is now 300 acres and 5% contained.
Additional Resources have been ordered to the fire. 20 fire engines, eight dozer, 10 water tenders and 12 hand crews.

Westbound I-80 is currently CLOSED at the Nevada State Line. There is currently no estimated time of reopening. Motorists should avoid the area, expect significant delays.
CAL FIRE is in Unified Command with the Tahoe National Forest.
Fire is wind-driven pushing east on the western side of the highway and long-range spotting has been reported. An additional 10 engines, four dozers, and six crews have been ordered. The fire has a potential for 200 acres in size.

The Floriston Fire is burning near Interstate 80 and Floriston Way, approximately nine miles northeast of Truckee. The fire is estimated at 20 acres with a dangerous rate of spread and is threatening Interstate 80, the Truckee watershed, and nearby natural resources. Additional air and ground resources have been requested.
