Seasonal Firefighter Hiring
Fire Fighter I is a seasonal, temporary classification used by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). Fire Fighter I hiring usually occurs each April, May, or June, depending upon the upcoming fire season conditions.
The minimum qualification to participate in the Fire Fighter I examination is that you must be 18 years of age at the time of appointment to a Firefighter I position.
You must file a Fire Fighter I application (1.1MB PDF) at each CAL FIRE Unit in which you wish to be considered for appointment. For a listing of CAL FIRE Units, please refer to the "CAL FIRE Unit Contacts".
The filing period for the 2008 fire season (54K PDF) is the first business day of November 2007 through the last business day of January 2008.
Applications will not be accepted at Sacramento Headquarters, Region Offices, or Conservation Camps.
For more information regarding seasonal firefighting and how to apply download the "Fire Fighter I Fact Sheet."
